Creating a spectacular ensemble for the parade opening of the 13 Carowinds haunted houses, we designed and fabricated 13 custom giant head backpacks, each with a distinct and eerie theme. The range of designs included a Rotting Pig Head, Zombie, Evil Clown, Skull Octopus, Frankenstein’s Monster, Possessed Nurse, Jack-o-Lantern, Scarecrow, Cowboy Ghoul, Knight, Steampunk Plague Doctor, Maniac Serial Killer, and Post-Apocalyptic Vampire. Employing 3D design for client approval, we crafted the heads from lightweight foam and coated them in a durable rubber for longevity. To ensure easy portability, the backpacks were framed with lightweight aluminum, and a thoughtful design allowed all heads to be effortlessly removed and slid into stands in front of each haunted attraction once the parade concluded, providing a seamless transition from the parade to the main event. The result was a visually stunning and cohesive display that set the stage for the haunting experiences that awaited within the Carowinds haunted houses.
