Bringing the Rickety Man Creature to Life
In our collaboration on the short film “The Rickety Man,” directed by Cameron Gallagher, we embarked on a multifaceted journey to bring the nightmarish creature to life. Beginning with the concept drawing, we transitioned into the realm of 3D modeling, leveraging cutting-edge technology to create a detailed representation of the creature. To ensure directorial approval, we produced 3D-printed maquettes, offering a tangible preview of the looming monstrosity. The subsequent stages involved CNC carving and meticulous fabrication, transforming the virtual design into an enormous stand-in puppet, meticulously hard-coated to withstand the demands of the film.
Our commitment to seamless integration with visual effects (VFX) extended to providing the 3D model for digital manipulation, allowing the creature to come alive on the screen. Additionally, we crafted a specialized finger extension glove for shots featuring the creature’s hand, ensuring a harmonious blend of practical and digital effects. The film’s recognition across various film festivals, including the Cannes Short Film Festival, Screamfest Horror Film Festival, and the Toronto Independent Film Festival, attests to the success of our collaborative efforts in delivering an impactful and visually striking cinematic experience.
